App Annie, an analysis tool for mobile developers, today reported that downloads from Google Play exceeded downloads from Apple’s App Store in Q2 2013.
That’s the first time that more apps were downloaded for Android than for Apple’s iOS, though the 10% isn’t huge. It also comes at a time when multiple Android flagships were released: Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 sold incredibly well, but the HTC One also was a hit with customers. It’s likely that those purchasing new phones propelled app downloads past Apple’s numbers.
It will be interesting to see if Android can hold its lead over Apple, particularly as iOS 7 and rumored refreshes hit the market.
