Cydia Getting a Makeover

As many of you already know, Saurik, the creator of Cydia, recently acquired Rock Your iPhone. Over the past few weeks, he has been busy transferring all the Rock data over to Cydia, and making sure everything works as expected. According to iSpazio, Saurik has also taken this time to add a few new features to make the unofficial-App Store much more useful and enjoyable. Possible enhancements include:

  • Download all your existing Rock apps from Cydia without having to pay for them again.
  • There is a debate going on about a possible voting system to rate apps, along with the ability to provide feedback on them.
  • Sign-in into Cydia store with your Facebook or Google account.
  • Make backups of your existing packages installed in Cydia so that you can sync, or restore them on a another fresh new iOS device.

The ability to backup applications is definitely going to be a killer feature, and will make losing Rock much more bearable. Sadly, there is no mention of a speed increase, something that many users complain about, but hopefully Saurik optimized the code during the update.

Cydia has remained relatively unchanged since its release, so it’s nice to see that improvements are being made. (Despite the fact that the competition has been eliminated.) It’s unknown when this update will be released, but word on the street is that it will be rolled out around the same time as Greenpois0n.

So, what improvements would you like to see? Let us know in the comments.
