Apple Adds HBO Go, WatchESPN to Apple TV, Shares Usage Numbers

In an announcement made available this morning, Apple stated that they were adding various channels to the Apple TV:

Apple® today announced that HBO GO and WatchESPN are now available directly on Apple TV® joining the great lineup of programming offered to customers.

Exact channel availability differs by region, though there are also three other, less-prominent content providers being added to the platform. SkyNews, Qello, and Crunchyroll are making their way to Apple’s television settop box. Those channels provide news, TV programming, and sports, respectively.

Perhaps more interesting are the numbers Apple shared:

iTunes® users have downloaded more than one billion TV episodes and 380 million movies from iTunes to date, and they are purchasing over 800,000 TV episodes and over 350,000 movies per day.

Horace Dediu of then used this data to extrapolate the overall effect Apple TV has on the iTunes economy.
