Case Maker Prepares for Redesigned iPad at WWDC, But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

CNet is reporting upon a statement from Gumdrop cases, a provider of protective devices for iPads, in which the company reveals that it already has a model of its most popular case ready for the rumored iPad redesign. This model is apparently slated to be ready to go on June 10th, the same day as the opening WWDC Keynote.

[Gumdrop Cases founder and CEO Tim] Hickman wouldn’t say who his sources are, but he’s confident enough in them to start producing new cases for the iPad 5 and put them up for pre-order. In fact, a press sample of the $59.99 Gumdrop Drop Tech is due to arrive later today, and we’ll update the post with new pictures once we get it. Gumdrop is also manufacturing the Gumdrop Bounce ($34.95) and Gumdrop Drop Tech Designer Series ($59.99). They’re scheduled to ship on June 10.

So. This story has it all. Unnamed sources, a daring business move, and even a doubling-down on his bet — after all, the company is already producing the cases! In these cases (no pun intended, I promise), I defer to the experts:

The important thing to remember about WWDC is that it is a developer conference. It’s not a place where Apple is going to show off the newest iPhone or iPad. These are Apple’s flagship products and they demand separate events. Entire industries watch these products because they shape what will happen in the mobile space. They are that important.

So, don’t expect an iPhone or iPad at WWDC.

That comes by way of Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, a man who has the best record in predicting Apple releases thanks to his fantastic sources inside Apple.
