According to the French blog Mac4Ever, iChat will soon be updated with FaceTime support, allowing you to make video calls from a Mac to an iPhone (or iPod Touch). It is unknown what client PC users will get, since there is currently no Windows version of iChat.
Apple is preparing to leave FaceTime for Mac and PC, the Mac version coming to settle down in the iChat software.
Apple is really pushing FaceTime, and has featured it as the center piece in many of the latest iPhone commercials. If video calling does become the “must-have” technology of the future, Apple wants to be leading the charge. Plus, FaceTime is supposed to be an “open industry standard“, so it would make perfect sense to introduce desktop support to get full market saturation.
