This is a monumental moment in the history of the iPhone. Almost six years after the original iPhone was released, the handset is finally arriving on T-Mobile USA in an official capacity. The carrier today began accepting iPhone 5 pre-orders for a down payment of $99.99, followed by monthly payment installments of $20 for 24 months. That payment model is based around T-Mobile’s new contract-free Uncarrier plans, which include unlimited talk, text, web, and data.
Apple has been pushing in recent months to sell the iPhone, adding a “why you’ll love iPhone” page to its website and offering free next-day shipping on all new iPhone purchases. The addition of the iPhone on T-Mobile’s network is expected to give Apple an additional bump in sales of the handset, especially because of the attractive plans the carrier is offering without needing to lock into a new two-year service agreement.
