In the wake of what may be one of the biggest PR disasters in recent history, EA Chief Executive Officer John Riccitiello has announced his resignation effective March 30th, 2013. Larry Probst has been appointed Executive Chairman, effective immediately.
Mr. Riccitiello stated, “EA is an outstanding company with creative and talented employees, and it has been an honor to serve as the Company’s CEO. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and after six years I feel it is the right time for me pass the baton and let new leadership take the Company into its next phase of innovation and growth. I remain very optimistic about EA’s future — there is a world class team driving the Company’s transition to the next generation of game consoles.”
As earnings for the company continue to fall and the latest SimCity PC game being accepted vastly negatively, the CEO certainly realized it was time for the company to move on. Not only was SimCity widely criticized, but many of EA’s other recent projects have been too–Star Wars: The Old Republic and Real Racing 3 to name a few.
I for one wish the company the best of luck producing high quality games in the future–on iOS and elsewhere.
