Swatch CEO: Apple’s iWatch Isn’t the Future

iWatch concept

The CEO of Swatch – a company that has produced fashion-friendly watches and bracelets – today weighed in on the iWatch rumors that have been swirling around the blogosphere. He isn’t a fan (though that would make sense; his company’s wellbeing may depend on how successful the iWatch and similar products are), being rather blunt in his opinions:

“Personally, I don’t believe it’s the next revolution,” the chief of the largest Swiss watchmaker said at a press conference on annual results in Grenchen, Switzerland. “Replacing an iPhone with an interactive terminal on your wrist is difficult. You can’t have an immense display.”

He does stipulate that his opinions are his own, though he does also seem to be confused about the concept of a wearable computer. A wearable computer isn’t designed to completely replace an iPhone, or any other smartphone. Instead, it is used to make the experience more convenient, or more useful in certain ways. Still, does he have a point? Perhaps — time will tell!
