Speck is probably one of the more respected case companies out there. Their line of cases have been known for their attractive designs that not only look great, but feel great in your hand. Additionally, their cases tend to do a good job protecting the devices that rest within. The Speck CandyShell keeps all of these ideas in mind to protect the iPod within.

- Speck CandyShell
A glossy, plastic backside offers a beautiful representation of any of the colors you get your case in, whether it be glossy white, black, or blue. A secondary color borders the rest of your device that contrasts well with the iPod Touch that is housed inside.
That said, the CandyShell is, for the iPod Touch, available in 3 color combinations: black/white, white/black, and blue/red (primary/secondary combos). The colors go well with most of the iPod models, although I do wish a few more color combos were available to match all the colors of the iPod. The secondary red matches well with my red iPod. The design as a whole is very appealing despite being prone to smudges and scratches.
The Speck CandyShell actually does a great job protecting the iPod Touch. The inner-coating of the case is a lot softer and able to protect your iPod from larger shocks. Surrounding this is a nice plastic shell to further protect your iPod from any impacts it may incur. Together, they will protect your iPod from just about anything it may run into.
There is a nice rubber bezel helps protect the screen from face first hits. Obviously, this only works if your device lands on a flat surface, but it’s a nice touch nonetheless. The rubber does a nice job to absorb any bits of shock and impact too.
While Speck does a great job by protecting the buttons, they also don’t forget that buttons serve a purpose on a device. All buttons still function perfectly and have the same spring to them. The other areas are left open to allow accessibility. While the speaker is covered nicely, the dock port and headphone jack are left open.
The Speck CandyShell actually does do a great job protecting your device. In addition to this, it isn’t too bad to look at either. The iPod Loop is still accessible with the case on as well, so you can still use your included loop if you wish. The only thing that would keep me held back from using this case is that not all my headphones were able to plug into the recessed headphone jack.
Speck’s CandyShell line is not new to the iFans’ community. It’s been a well, and rightfully, recommended case for anyone who needs protection, but can’t sacrifice style. With the new iPod Touch, Speck continues this pattern by offering a protective case but not sacrificing the usability of the iPod Touch within.
