LG Buys WebOS, But It’s Not What You’re Thinking

webOSPalm’s webOS refuses to die.

South Korean consumer electronics maker LG confirmed on Monday that it has acquired webOS assets from Hewlett-Packard, including source code, patents and relevant websites.

The somewhat disappointing reality is that the company plans to incorporate the software into its future smart TVs, rather than smartphones. So, if you were hoping for a handheld rebirth of the ill-fated webOS platform, it’s not going to happen just yet. Nevertheless, it’ll be exciting to see what LG will do with webOS in the future.
