Sources for All Things D have confirmed with the publication that there will not actually be a native Instagram client for BlackBerry 10, which was recently released. BlackBerry announced that there would be support for the popular photo-sharing service, which everyone took to mean that Instagram was developing an app for the platform.
That isn’t the case, according to those sources: “There will be no [native] Instagram for BB10 for now,” said one. “Frankly, I’m not sure there will ever be.”
That doesn’t mean that there will be no support for Instagram on BlackBerry’s latest platform. BlackBerry 10 includes a way to run Android apps through a java emulator. It works, but only just: apps are laggy, and look and feel out of place on BlackBerry 10.
Sad, frankly, though it is worth noting that not even Windows Phone, the current number three platform, has any official Instagram support, even with the close relationship of Microsoft and Facebook.
