Research in Motion is hoping to begin a new chapter in its history tomorrow, when it unveils its highly anticipated BlackBerry 10 mobile platform at a press event in New York City. The main announcement will begin at 10:00 AM Eastern, with simultaneous media events taking place in Toronto, London, Paris, Dubai, Johannesburg, Jakarta and Delhi. It’ll be an exciting few hours.
BlackBerry 10 is considered to be the do or die product for RIM, which lost its position atop the smartphone industry to market leaders Apple and Google over the past several years. The BlackBerry has haemorrhaged considerable market share to the iPhone and Android smartphones, while Windows Phone, Ubuntu OS and Firefox OS will only heighten competition in the future.
