There has been much ado about whether or not “skeuomorphism” is a suitable design style for iOS. Well, it’s been fairly successful at its job over the last 5 years, but many are saying it’s time for something new. While I don’t think we’ll see a comprehensive redesign of the entire operating system, I think Music.app is a good example of the direction Apple is taking.
And if that’s the case, Apple will most likely be bringing aluminum — or as Jony Ive says “Aliminium” — to the next major revision of iOS. But this post’s intent is not to debate whether or not we need a visual redesign in iOS 7. What I think most can agree on however, is that iOS 7 does need a bit of reimagining to keep up with the pack.
That said, Rene Ritchie over at iMore has done some quick mock-ups detailing what iOS 7 would look like if the entire operating system were reskinned to resemble what we know today as Music.app. What do you think? Does a bland all-aluminum design work for you?
