WIRED has an interesting infographic created by Tableau Software that shows the prices for mobile data plans around the world. The highest is in France, where users pay at least $25.47 per gigabyte. The cheapest is in Singapore, which has data rates as low as $.51 per gigabyte.
It isn’t unreasonable to expect prices this cheap in the United States. AT&T’s 2GB data plan is $25. If you were to divide this by 10 to estimate the cost of a 200MB plan, it would equal $2.5 per month; In reality, the 200MB plan cost $15 per month, a 600% relative increase in price. This is the same across all carriers. Clearly, we’re being bamboozled.
