Angry Birds has been a smash hit for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch since its release over three years ago, selling millions of copies over the years.
Finnish developer Rovio has kept the franchise alive with new variations of the game, such as Angry Birds Star Wars, but it almost doesn’t have to at the pace that Angry Birds continues to sell at.
During this past Christmas week alone, from December 22nd through December 29th, Rovio has announced that Angry Birds was downloaded 30 million times. Of those downloads, 8 million came on Christmas Day alone. Even more interesting is that 17.2 million new iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones and tablets were activated on Christmas Day, meaning almost one out of every two new devices installed Angry Birds.
And if you think the Angry Birds franchise is winding down whatsoever, you’re completely off base. Angry Birds plush toys and other merchandise has been flying off the shelves, while there is even such thing as Angry Birds Cola and even an Angry Birds movie in the making. If I had to pick the most successful pick-up-and-play iPhone game, Angry Birds wins hands down. Are you still into Angry Birds?
