News on jailbreaking has been somewhat dormant lately, as Apple continues to seed multiple versions of iOS 6. Legendary iOS hackers MuscleNerd, pod2g, planetbeing and others have potentially found a jailbreak exploit as of October, although they still refer to it as a failbreak at this point because of its various flaws.
However, while these famous iOS hackers work very hard to get a jailbreak out for the public, hacker and developer iH8sn0w has gone ahead and updated his ‘f0recast’ tool, which detects if a particular device can be jailbroken or unlocked. The program is essentially a jailbreak status tool for those that are waiting patiently to exploit their devices.
The current version for ‘f0recast’ stands at 1.4, which brings a plethora of new features and a simplistic UI to the application. Added to the newest version of the tool is the ability to tell if a device has a tethered or untethered jailbreak available, which can be helpful to those who eagerly wait for a jailbreak on iOS 6 or later.
Another useful addition to f0recast is that it now has the ability to tell if you have SHSH blobs, which are regularly used to downgrade iOS versions, saved for that current device on Cydia.
Along with these additions, it also has the features to tell your device’s IMEI, ECID and baseband by simply connecting your device to your computer.
While f0recast may not be one of the most anticipated jailbreak tools, it does provide useful information to aid you in jailbreaking when you upgrade to a newer device.
You’ll also give iOS hackers a break by not having to ask them if or when a jailbreak is coming for a particular device. You can download the latest version of iH8sn0w’s f0recast tool for free at iH8sn0w.com for OS X and Windows.
