Khan Academy has been available on iPad for a while, but an app update released today allows students (and other humans interested in learning) to watch the full library of educational videos on the iPhone and iPod touch. The app covers all the topics you find on the Khan Academy website, including everything from Kindergarten to 12th grade and beyond. Math, Science, Finance, Humanities, you name it, Khan Academy for iPhone has it. What you won’t find on the iPhone version of the app is the game-like features that try to foster learning on the website.
While I don’t really understand Khan Academy restricting some features to certain devices, it’s good to see they are expanding their reach to people who don’t own an iPad. It may make some sense when you consider that the iPad is more like a laptop, and therefore will probably get more engagement from users, but keeping simple features such as video downloads from the iPhone is beyond me. The iPad app is more of the full website experience, while the iPhone version is more for “on-the-go” quick videos for when you didn’t listen to your Calculus professor that morning. Do you use Khan Academy to help further your learning outside of school?
The app is available for free on the App store.
