Apple, Samsung and HTC Are Only Smartphone Makers Turning Profits

If there is any skepticism that it is a two-horse race between the iPhone and Android smartphones in the mobile space, Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has provided a note on Twitter that paints a clear picture about profit share in the smartphone industry. Dediu notes that Apple, Samsung and HTC are the only three handset makers that are turning profits on sales of their mobile devices, and HTC barely joins that club with just a 1 percent stake of the profits. Apple and Samsung, on the other hand, account for 60 and 39 percent of profits respectively. Dediu bluntly claims that “no other companies [are] profitable.”
