Apple is giving certain employees a “break” from their normal duties in order to work on and further develop “special” pet projects of their own. The project, called “Blue Sky,” allows employees to focus on other projects that aren’t currently at the core of Apple’s focus, but that may end up benefitting the company one day. This is similar to programs done by various other tech companies, most notably Google. However, it was stated that the project is rather limited, and it only applies to a specific, relatively small group of employees at this time.
The Wall Street Journal first reported this information in their daily video feed, and used it as evidence that Apple’s corporate culture is changing under CEO Tim Cook. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what – if anything – comes out of this initiative.
