Just in case you forgot, Facebook bought the social app Instagram earlier this year. So it’s unsurprising that Instagram Profiles on the web, announced today, are quite similar to Facebook. It has become increasingly evident that Mark Zuckerberg and company are strengthening the ties between Instagram and Facebook as the photo sharing service continues to grow in size and popularity. Instagram laid out the details about its new online profiles on its official blog:
Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram. In addition, you can follow users, comment & like photos and edit your profile easily and directly from the web. It’s a beautiful new way to share your Instagram photos!
Instagram profiles on the web should serve as a welcomed compliment to the Instagram app for iPhone and iPod touch. Instagram filtered photos have become somewhat of a viral phenomenon, with over 855,000 photos related to Hurricane Sandy alone having been posted to Instagram over the past week. And soon, you’ll be able to keep track of all those photos on the web.
