Google manufacturing partner Asustek has revealed that Nexus 7 sales are approaching one million per month. The 7-inch tablet launched in July with much fanfare surrounding the device, especially because of its low $199 price tag. Asus executives confirmed the rise in Nexus sales during their third-quarter financial results announcement.
“At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to 1 million,” Asustek Chief Financial Officer David Chang told The Wall Street Journal.
Google has not officially announced sales of its Nexus 7 tablet, although it is expected that over 3 million units have been sold as of mid October. Apple has responded to the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire with the iPad mini, although the tablet has a higher $329 price tag and larger 7.85-inch screen.
