9to5mac is reporting that Apple will be unveiling a smaller lineup of their Smart Covers for the iPad Mini during tomorrow’s event. Not exactly shocking, though certainly interesting. It’s unlikely that the product will be updated beyond the dimensions being shrunk down to match the iPad Mini’s 7.8″ screen.
The current Smart Covers for the 9.7″ iPad take advantage of magnets in the screen and casing of the device to stay closed, and to power the device on whenever the cover is flipped open. It makes for an interesting, and often useful, trick. It’s likely that the iPad Mini will feature a similar setup, although the chance that it has been removed as a cost-saving measure is always present.
