Samsung’s Attempt to Promote Galaxy S III on Facebook Backfires in Favor of iPhone 5

If you could only take one electronic device on to a deserted island, what would it be? That is the question that Samsung recently asked its Facebook followers alongside a picture of a Galaxy S III on a sandy beach. The picture has been largely ineffective, however, as the whole Facebook campaign has backfired on Samsung, with most users commenting that they would bring the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 along with them if they only had one electronic device on a deserted island. Oh, and the iPad too.

Samsung has also targeted the iPhone 5 with its “the next big thing is already here” and “it doesn’t take a genius” advertisements, attempting to show how the Galaxy S III smartphone is a superior choice over Apple’s latest handset. Samsung’s Facebook timeline contains many subtle references to the iPhone, with phrases such as “panorama is just the tip of the iceberg” and “thank you for embracing our Galaxy 4G LTE smartphones… in 2011.” Again, the response has overwhelmingly been in favor of Apple and its iPhone, with many consumers upset that Samsung is taking an immature approach with their ad campaigns against Apple.
