Remember Ping, Apple’s Social Network For Music?
It’s dead. Imagine that – the iTunes-based network, which failed to garner any real traction amongst consumers, will be removed completely from iTunes when iTunes 11 ships this fall. However, the service is no longer allowing people to sign up, and Apple has posted a notice, stating that Apple will be shuttering Ping completely come September 30th.
None of this is surprising, given Apple’s newfound relationship with both Facebook and Twitter, as well as Apple’s CEO Tim Cook publicly saying that Ping was a failure in a recent interview. Overall, it doesn’t seem like anyone will miss Apple’s first foray in to the social network space, and it seems at least possible that iTunes 11 will feature tighter integration with both Facebook, Twitter, and other region-specific social networks when it ships in late October.
