Apple today announced that the iOS 6 software update for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad will be released to the public next Wednesday, September 19th, while seeding the golden master copy of the update to developers for testing. The golden master edition of an iOS update is typically the same firmware build that is released to the public, so any bugs or issues discovered at this point would likely be addressed in a minor revision such as iOS 6.0.1.
iOS 6 includes several new features such as a brand new Maps application, Facebook integration, shared Photo Streams, Passbook, FaceTime over cellular, redesigned storefronts — the App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore — and a smarter Siri. The software update is free for the following eligible devices: iPhone 3GS through iPhone 5, fourth- and fifth-generation iPod touch, iPad 2 and new iPad. Will you be updating?
