Today, Apple’s Executive Team was shuffled up, as Bob Mansfield steps down (but not out), and Craig Federighi (Hair Force One) and Dan Riccio step up to join Tim Cook’s team of elite businessmen.
Bob Mansfield was previously in charge of Apple’s Hardware Engineering. Rumor had it that he was retiring, but that isn’t the case – he’s simply stepping down from the executive position, and is staying on to “work on future products.” He will report directly to Tim Cook, so it’s probable that he’s working on top-secret projects.
Craig Federighi is moving in to the executive position, after being Bertrand Serlet’s replacement last year for the head of Mac Software. Dan Riccio is moving up to fill Mansfield’s executive shoes.
Overall, not a huge shift, but it contains some interesting moves nonetheless. Last year, when Serlet retired but Federighi wasn’t bumped up to join the executive team, it was widely reported that this likely was due to Apple not caring about the Mac. This promotion should assuage that fear.
