Electronics retailers Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Walmart are beginning to experience supply shortages on the iPod nano, signalling that a next-generation iPod nano is likely on the horizon. Apple is long overdue to update the iPod nano as overall iPod sales have dropped for the past several quarters. The new iPod nano is very likely to sport the rumored smaller dock connector, as Apple will seemingly make this port universal across its devices, in addition to Bluetooth 4.0 technology for pairing with the iPhone and other devices.
Apple might also choose to change the physical design and storage capacity of the iPod nano. Supply began drying up on the iPod nano earlier this month, when a German company began advising its customers that there was a delay on iPod nano deliveries because of an upcoming re-introduction of the device. Apple has neglected to update its iPod lineup for a few years now, including the iPod touch, as it focuses on its core three businesses: iPhone, iPad and Mac. Nevertheless, it appears that the iPod nano could be in store for at least one more update.
