Report: iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Begin September 12th

According to a new report from Rene Ritchie for iMore, who has a rather solid track record for Apple rumors, Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the so-called “iPhone 5″ on September 12th, the same day the handset is expected to be unveiled at a special media event. The actual launch date of the handset is expected to take place on nine days later on September 21st, while international orders will begin in early October according to the report. Moreover, Apple is expected to debut its new 7.85-inch “iPad mini” alongside its next-generation iPhone at the September 12th event.

The sixth-generation iPhone, rumored to feature an aluminum unibody chassis, smaller 8-pin, 9-pin or 19-pin dock connector, centered FaceTime camera, redesigned speaker grills and a headphone jack relocated to the bottom of the handset. Moreover, it is also widely expected that Apple’s next iPhone will be compatible with LTE networks and could feature NFC for mobile payments. Many of these features are also expected to make their way to future iPod touch and iPad models to ensure a streamlined family of iOS devices.
