The iPhone Could Have ‘MagSafe’ Dock Connector

French website Nowhere Else has posted a photo of what is believed to be the smaller dock connector on the next-generation iPhone. As the picture shows, there is a small metallic ring around the edges of the dock connector, potentially meaning that the iPhone and other iOS devices will gain some kind of magnetic dock connector akin to the MagSafe port on MacBooks.

With a MagSafe connector on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, it would no longer matter which orientation the Apple sync cable is plugged into the device. Currently, the cable must be attached in one particular direction, which can become a minor nuisance over time. Apple proved with its Smart Cover for the iPad that magnets can be used in combination with iOS devices without problems, so a MagSafe connector is not ruled out.
