Apple Subtly ‘Rickrolls’ Developers

In addition to the departure of the YouTube app in iOS 6 beta 4, Apple also notified in the changelog that “embedded YouTube URLs in the form of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 will no longer work” in the latest version of the pre-release software.

As of iOS 6, embedded YouTube URLs in the form of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 will no longer work. These URLs are for viewing the video on the YouTube site, not for embedding in web pages. Instead, the format that should be used is described here: https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters.

Wait, in the form of what? If you copy and paste that YouTube link into your address bar, you’ll be directed to a video of Rick Astley’s music video for the song Never Gonna Give You Up, which was at the heart of the popular Internet meme known as “rickrolling” over the past several years.
