Apple today has quietly launched Hulu Plus on Apple TV through a software update pushed out overnight. Subscribers to Hulu Plus, which costs $8 per month, can now stream TV shows and movies directly from the set-top TV box. While the Xbox 360 and other competing devices have offered this service for quite some time, Apple has made it so that you can pay for your Hulu Plus subscription directly from your iTunes account rather than using a credit card directly.
It’s expected that Apple will keep a portion of Hulu Plus subscription fees, although you will still need to sign up at Hulu.com if you try creating an account on iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Hulu Plus content providers and owner Disney, Comcast and News Corp. had little choice but to offer the service on Apple TV, since a new AirPlay Mirroring feature in OS X Mountain Lion allows Mac users to stream content from their desktop to a flat-screen TV via the Apple TV peripheral.
