Microsoft has revealed in its latest 10-K filing with the Security and Exchange Commission that it will be releasing both its Window 8 operating system and Microsoft Surface tablet on October 26th, 2012. According to AllThingsD, this is the first concrete launch date provided for the tablet.
“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012,” Microsoft said in its annual report. “At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.”
Unlike the iPad, the Microsoft Surface features an integrated keyboard and retractable stand, essentially making the tablet a mini workstation wherever you plan on using it. The Surface will be based on the Windows 8 RT platform, with a Pro version that runs a full-fledged version of the Windows 8 operating system to be made available.
