In an effort to defend itself against Samsung’s claims that the iPhone is based heavily off Sony design, Apple has revealed a new iPhone prototype codenamed “Purple” that dates back to August 2005. The prototype, which has a form factor similar to the iPhone 4S, eventually led to the original iPhone release a few years later.
Apple had been accused of copying Sony design with its iPhone prototype called Jony, which is a play on the words Sony and Apple design guru Jonathan Ive. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has since ruled that Samsung cannot present any evidence on a Sony-inspired iPhone in its jury trial with Apple.
