Apple could make a huge splash later this year by releasing several new devices at a special event on Wednesday, September 12th, if a new rumor from iMore proves to be true. The report, citing sources that have been accurate in the past, claims that Apple will announce its next-generation iPhone, so-called “iPad mini” tablet, refreshed iPod nano and possibly a new iPod touch at the event.
The iPhone release in particular is scheduled for Friday, September 21st, nine days following the event, while the expected iPad mini release date remains unknown. It is suggested that the iPad mini will likely follow a similar release timeline as the new iPhone.
The iPad mini is expected to have almost identical hardware to the existing 9.7-inch iPad, only scaled down with a display in the 7-inches range. Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to be thinner with a larger 4-inch display, aluminum unibody chassis and smaller 19-pin dock connector.
The home button is expected to remain a part of the new iPhone, which is said to have a centered FaceTime camera, redesigned speaker grills and relocated headphone jack at the bottom of the handset. Moreover, it is also widely expected that Apple’s next iPhone will be compatible with LTE networks and could feature NFC for mobile payments.
