Android Devices Outselling iOS Devices

Google today at its I/O conference revealed that 400 million total Android devices have been activated since the mobile platform debuted four years ago. That number is staggering enough that the number of Android devices activated now presumably exceeds the number of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad units that Apple has shipped collectively.

Apple recently announced at its WWDC 2012 keynote that it has sold 365 million iOS devices, so the 400 million Android devices that Google has activated appears to top Apple by a fair margin. One could argue that there are simply dozens of Android devices on the market in contrast to Apple’s three iOS devices, but it’s still an impressive feat for Google and its Android operating system, which debuted one year after the original iPhone launched.
