How to Upgrade to iOS 6 Beta Without UDID (Legally)
iFans forum member wimdg has posted an alternative method to upgrade your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to iOS 6 beta without being a registered developer or activating your device’s UDID.
You’ll need some things:
- An iPhone, iPod touch or iPad that supports iOS 6
- A freshly installed version of iOS 5.1 or 5.1.1
- iOS 6 beta (IPSW file)
- iTunes 10.6.3
The first thing you need to do is freshly restore to iOS 5.1 or 5.1.1. It wouldn’t be wise to use a jailbroken device. Then, complete the setup process until your device is on its home screen. Next, just update — restoring your device will not work — to the iOS 6 beta.
That update has to be done by pressing Shift + Update (Windows) or Option + Update (Mac) in iTunes and selecting the iOS 6 beta IPSW file. If you do not have this file, ask a friend for it or use your creative Internet searching ability to obtain it from Apple’s servers. Best of all, enjoy iOS 6 ahead of its public release in Fall.
