iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Could Drop Tomorrow

Earlier this week, the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak — dubbed “Absinthe 2.0″ — was targeted for release in just “a matter of days,” and now we likely have a more specific date for when it will drop.

Several prominent iOS hackers including pod2g and MuscleNerd are currently attending the Hack In The Box conference in Amsterdam, and it is very likely that the jailbreak could be released at this event.

The jailbreak Dream Team is set to hold a keynote tomorrow, Friday, May 25, and it would be the perfect opportunity for the hackers to release the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak. There’s no guarantees that the jailbreak will be shown off during this keynote, but it does line up nicely with the ETAs provided by pod2g.

The iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak will support both A4- and A5-powered devices including the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, original iPad, iPad 2, new iPad, and third- and fourth-generation iPod touch.

Jailbreaking allows you to install third-party applications, tweaks, mods, themes, useful utilities, and other content — called “packages” — from Cydia, the jailbreak equivalent of the App Store on iOS. Jailbreaking essentially allows for you to further customize and enhance your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad beyond the limits that Apple imposes.
