A story coming out of macrumors.com pins the so far unknown amount of RAM in the highly anticipated iPhone 4 at 512MB.
While this is by no means conclusive, Macrumors is confident in their sources. Although it isn’t a new thing in some other high-end phones, 512MB of RAM in an iDevice will be a large step forward; doubling that of the iPad, iPod touch 3G, and the iPhone 3GS. With iOS running so smoothly on 256MB of RAM, it will be interesting to see what happens when that amount is doubled. Since multitasking in iOS4 means more memory being used in the background, this boost in memory should allow for even more apps to continue working in the background.
