More speculation has surfaced about Apple working on an “iPad Mini,” this time coming by way of Chinese website NetEase (via Kotaku), which claims that Apple plans to produce six million of the smaller tablets for its launch in the third quarter of this year. The report says that the smaller iPad will be priced in the range of $249 to $299 to compete with upcoming Windows 8 tablets, although Amazon’s Kindle Fire is also a low-priced competitor.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the so-called “iPad Mini,” as John Gruber from Daring Fireball has previously noted that Apple has a 7.85-inch iPad in its labs, but may not ever release the tablet. According to MacRumors, a 7.85-inch iPad with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels would have 163 pixels-per-inch, which would be equal to the non-Retina display iPhone and iPod touch. Do you like the idea of an “iPad Mini”?
