This evening, Apple released a standalone Flashback removal tool for OS X in the form of an installer that automatically detects the malware if it’s there. The 356 kb tool was built to remove Flashback if your Mac does not have Java — if it does, then there’s no need to download this tool. However, should you not have Java installed on your computer, head over to the download page to grab the package.
Just yesterday, Apple released Java for OS X 2012-003 that removed any Flashback malware on the computer it was installed on automatically. The update weighed in at 66.8 MB, required no action to remove the malware, and was recommended for all users. Should you have Java on your Mac, it is advised that you update immediately to ensure that you do not have the Flashback trojan.
