iOS 5.1 Jailbreak Released for Apple TV 2

FireCore has updated their Seas0npass jailbreaking utility to allow for second-generation Apple TV users to jailbreak the set-top TV box running iOS 5.1.

Seas0nPass is available for both Windows and Mac OS X, and has a similar jailbreaking process to the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool and redsn0w utilities.

Second-generation Apple TV owners that already have an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 should be advised that this new jailbreak is tethered, meaning that you will lose your ability to restart your media box without connecting it to a Mac or PC.

The new Apple TV features in iOS 5.1 might be worth the sacrifice, however, as there is a new icon grid interface, iCloud movie playback, and more included in the update. On the downside, iDownloadBlog notes that several apps including Overflow, Plex, Remote HD, Rowmote, and XBMC currently do not work with the new software yet. Furthermore, this jailbreak does not support the new Apple TV with 1080p playback.
