Apple has contacted Jim Dalrymple from The Loop to respond to the reported iPad 3 heating issues that have become today’s hot topic. Some users have complained that their new tablet gets significantly hotter than the last-generation model, but Apple has assured customers that the device operates “well within our thermal specifications“. Like most PR messages, this is intentionally vague, but we expect that the increase in temperature is completely normal considering what’s new under the hood.
“The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications. If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.”
Of course, if your device is seriously scorching, contact AppleCare to get it checked out. As with any new product release, there is a slim possibility that a few units have actual defects.
