The developer behind the 3G Unrestrictor app has released a new jailbreak tweak which unofficially enables push notifications in Sparrow for iOS. The mobile version of the excellent mail client recently launched for the iPhone, but due to Apple’s restrictive App Store policies, the development team was unable to include push notifications. Being notified of new messages in a timely fashion is an essential part of a mail client, so this tweak gives Sparrow the killer feature it needs to best the default iOS mail app.
iPhone Jailbreak tweak for the popular iPhone app Sparrow, which enables eMail push notification when the app is in the background making Sparrow a real replacement for the stock Mail application.
The tweak will also attempt to re-launch Sparrow automatically if your device reboots, so you won’t miss any important messages due to a lapse in memory. It uses the same APIs that are officially reserved for VoIP applications to send push notifications, so it won’t drain your battery any more than the standard Exchange push servie in Apple’s Mail.app. Sparrow Push is available for free through the BigBoss repo in Cydia.
