Rumor: iPhone with 4G LTE Coming Later This Year

DigiTimes reports today that Apple will be launching a 4G LTE model of their iPhone in the second half of this year. They cite their sources as being “Taiwan-based smartphone makers,” though DigiTimes has never really been one for accuracy. For instance, just two weeks ago they reported that Apple would be launching an 8 GB model of the iPad 2, though the event from last week proved otherwise and Apple did not change the internal storage size in their iPad at all…

DigiTimes is notorious for reporting outlandish rumors and is typically inaccurate, though this one is worth noting because the launch of Apple’s new 4G LTE iPad signifies that they are definitely looking into the new technology and that the iPhone could possibly inherit it very soon. Previous rumors have claimed that the device will be announced at the WWDC in June of this year, though Apple did not announce any devices during the keynote last year and instead unveiled iOS 5.
