New iPads Already Shipping from Chengdu, China

Even though the expected delivery date of Apple’s 3rd generation iPad is said to be March 16th, they are already beginning to ship early pre-orders. Seth Weintraub of 9to5Mac reported today that his black 16 GB WiFi model with personalization has already been shipped and the UPS tracking shows that its origin is Chengdu, China. If all goes well, then he should receive it by Friday, March 16th, according to the UPS tracking estimate. The chances that he’ll receive it early are slim because UPS is usually given special instructions not to release the item until March 16th…

I ordered my new iPad about an hour after the pre-orders started, since the store went down again after around twenty minutes of uptime. My order hasn’t shipped yet, but it’s switched from “Processing Items” to “Preparing for Shipment,” so I’m sure it’ll be taking off very soon. As for the carrier, one of our forum members is reporting that his new iPad was shipped with FedEx instead of UPS, so it seems that Apple is alternating couriers. In my experience, FedEx has actually been the most reliable — not to mention they deliver in the early morning.
