A nameless tipster told phoneArena.com that cases for Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 tablet have begun to arrive at Best Buy stores with a pink label saying “Do not display until official iPad 3 launch.” The tipster adds that these cases are not arriving in a small quantity, but rather thousands and that there are over over 1,000 Targus Versavu 360 stands for the iPad 3 being shipped to Best Buy. This evidence shows that the next-generation device will indeed be launching almost immediately subsequent to the announcement this Wednesday. In addition, it almost makes certain that this year’s iPad will bear the name “iPad 3,” as opposed to “iPad 2S” or “iPad HD.” More coverage after the break.
Chinese technology blog M.I.C. Gadget yesterday published a report that claimed the iPad 3 would only exhibit minor changes in design with a slightly thicker chassis and possibly a larger battery for the Retina display. Also in their report was a video that showed some of the leaked iPad 3 parts assembled and placed in a proportioned case for the device. Whether this case was legitimate or not is yet to be determined, though the leaked rear shell showed that Apple had tapered the edge of the device ever so slightly with a touch of thickness. Lastly, it was shown that the iPad 3 will most likely be compatible with the current Apple Smart Cover.
Yet another report from M.I.C. Gadget, published a few weeks back, had also claimed that the tablet was to be thicker than its predecessor. This report included comparison photos of the iPad 2 and iPad 3′s proportioned rear shell. In addition, the blog had noticed that the camera hole in this iPad’s rear shell was “noticeably larger” than its antecedent, which had further confirmed the foregoing rumors of the device toting an 8-megapixel camera that would be capable of capturing 1080p video.
