Keyboard shortcuts are a rather simple, yet incredibly useful feature that can be enabled in iOS 5 for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Keyboard shortcuts allow for you to type short abbreviations that expand into predefined, lengthier phrashes that you set. For instance, you could set “bbl” to expand as “be back later,” or you could have “omwh” translate into “on my way home…”
If you are frequently text messaging or writing notes on your iOS device, this feature is really handy. Keyboard shortcuts can be enabled by navigating to Settings, tapping General followed by Keyboard, and then selecting Add New Shortcut… after scrolling down. What are some of your abbreviated shortcuts? SOITC — “sound off in the comments.”
