Rumor: iPad 3 to Cost $70 to $80 More than the iPad 2?

According to a new report by Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, Apple may be looking to increase the price on the rumored iPad 3 by $80 on the WiFi models and an additional $70 on the WiFi + 3G models. On the forum, one of the users posted an image claiming that the iPad 3′s starting price may be $579 for a 16 GB WiFi model and $699 for a WiFi + 3G model. Strangely, there is no mention of the rumored 128 GB storage size in this image, which raises some suspicion. That suspicious image and other juicy information leading up to the iPad 3 launch can be found after the break…

If you are wondering what the Chinese markings in the image mean, then here are their translations from left to right: “Apple iPad Model”, ”iPad 2 US Price”, “iPad 3 US Price”, and “iPad 3 RMB equivalent price”.

The current generation iPad starts at $499, just as its predecessor did, though this report hints that Apple may adjust the price to compensate for rumored feature additions like the Retina display, quad-core processor, LTE capability, and more.

Sina Weibo previously posted photos of proportioned iPad 3 front glass, which contained no major changes, save for the longer ribbon cable.
