The techies at iFixit have put MacRumor’s purported iPad 3 Retina display under the microscope to validate its 2048 by 1536 pixel resolution. Steve Jobs set the Retina standard at 300 pixels per inch at the iPhone 4 launch during WWDC, but iFixit notes that this iPad 3 display is “only” 260ppi…
Keep in mind that since the iPad is generally held farther away from your face than an iPhone, the perceived pixel density will likely be on par with the handset, so there’s no need to complain just yet. A resolution four times higher than the current iPad is nothing to scoff at, and we hope that Apple brings the same technology to the Mac.
The iPad 3 is expected to be announced on March 7th, so stay tuned for updates!
