‘OpenIPSW’ Now Online, Provides Info About iOS Updates

iFans community member Ryan Burke has launched a new online interface for openIPSW, a utility that allows you to view information about firmware files — often referred to as iOS software updates — before you download them. To begin, openIPSW asks for users to select their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad model from a drop-down menu, along with the iOS version it is running…

Then, openIPSW provides information about that specific firmware file, including the availability of SHSH blobs, file size, baseband version, jailbreak and unlock status, and a download link from Apple’s official servers. In addition to the new online version, openIPSW is also available as a free download for Windows and is coming soon to OS X version 10.6 or later. Don’t forget to follow the project’s progress on Twitter.
